Heavy snowfall is expected, the second winter storm later this week

DETROIT Heavy snow will penetrate Metro Detroit Monday night, leaving almost everyone with more than half a foot behind. A second storm is also on its heels for later this week.

Winter Storm Warnings is valid for the entire Southeast Michigan from 6pm Monday to Tuesday afternoon.

There will not be many nuances or troublesome prediction issues with this one. It’s only going to be brute force snow, and for such a productive snowmaker, the amount will not vary that much over the entire area.

Expect the lowest total to be about 5 inches in Livingston and Genesee, with the highest total up to 8 inches on the east side, which will be closest to the core of the snow. Cheque the 4ZONE page for detailed numbers.

The widespread snow will subside on Tuesday at 07:00 in the north-eastern corner of our North Zone. There will be a few snow showers in our Northern Zone during the morning, but areas south of M-59 are unlikely to see any of this action.

There’s already a twin storm right behind our presidential day wall. We will not get as much snow from the one because the track will be a little further east. It is therefore not an identical twin, but only a twin of the brother.

This storm begins Thursday afternoon and lasts until Friday afternoon. Accumulations appear to be within the 2-4 inch range.

The coldest air in two years has not yet arrived. It will be here Tuesday night through Wednesday morning. Our forecast of the Metro Zone is 2 degrees, and some areas fall below zero.

If you are tired of the cold and want relief, look at the 10-day forecast which we start getting close to 40 degrees next week!
