Heavy snow moves Saturday night – WISH-TV | Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A complex system that brings rain and snow to the area should cause significant congestion in parts of Indiana by Sunday afternoon.

Saturday:

Cloudy skies for much of the day as a major system enters the Middle East. Expect the onset of precipitation to set in late in the afternoon as a rain / snow mix.

Highlights in the upper thirties.

Saturday night:

Rain / snow mix will quickly switch to heavy snow along and north of the I-74 corridor. Expect several hours of persistent snow showers in the northern half of the state. By midnight, some areas around the subway and points south are likely to see a transition to a rain / snow mix or even all rain. In the north, snow showers will continue.

A winter storm warning is in effect for much of the northern half of the state Saturday night through Sunday afternoon. A winter weather advice is in force for much of the metro area and southeastern parts of the state.

In the warning area 4 ″ -6 ″ snow can be expected, with even larger amounts to the north possible, including the northwestern areas of Indiana, South Bend and Fort Wayne, where between 6 10 -10 ″ snow will be possible.

Sunday:

Snow showers should remain constant in northern Indiana on Sunday morning, while the northern part of the area will begin most of the area with rain or a rain / snow mix. Eventually colder air dives in and changes into all snow again in the late morning / early afternoon. Slight additional accumulation is expected throughout the day.

Highlights in the upper thirties.

8 days forecast:

Scattered snow showers continue until Monday with little accumulation expected. Tuesday and Wednesday remain quiet and seasonal. The next system of interest arrives Thursday through Friday, bringing first rain showers, followed by another rain and snowfall to end the work week.
