Hear Duran Duran’s Blazing Cover from David Bowie’s ‘Five Years’

Before their performance at the virtual David Bowie tribute Just For One Day, Duran Duran dropped their cover of the late legend’s “Five Years”.

The orchestra starts the synths for The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars interpretation, as Simon Le Bon is amplified by rugby singers for the climate festival. “Your face, your race, the way you speak,” he sings. “I kiss you, you’re beautiful, I want you to walk.”

“My life as a teenager was just David Bowie,” Le Bon said in a statement. ‘He’s the reason I started writing songs. A part of me still cannot believe in his death five years ago, but maybe there is a part of me where he is still alive and always will be. When we got the Ziggy Stardust LP and put the needle in the groove, our song ‘Five Years’ was our first taste of its perfection. I can not begin to explain how honest I feel that Duran Duran gets the opportunity to perform this icon, and to post our name with Bowie for the commemoration of his music. ”

The orchestra will perform on Friday, January 8 on Just For One Day on Bowie’s 74th birthday. Boy George, Adam Lambert, Michael C. Hall, Ian Hunter of Mott the Hoople, Trent Reznor, Billy Corgan and more will also perform. Tickets for the live stream are on sale now for $ 2. All proceeds go to Save the Children, who supported Bowie with his 50th birthday concert in 1997 at Madison Square Garden.

Duran Duran celebrates their 40th anniversary with a short tour overseas, kicking off on June 13 in Dublin, Ireland, on June 13. They will stop the summer through the UK by concluding on October 8 in Ibiza, Spain. More information can be found on the group’s website.
