A source tells PEOPLE that the divorce is due to infidelity, which separated the couple earlier in 2016.

“He cheated and broke her trust again,” the source said. “After fighting for marriage for so long, she realized that her patterns would never change.”

“The focus is now on their children,” they add, referring to the couple’s children Jolie Rae (5) and Jace Joseph (2).

The news of the split comes seven months after the couple released their book The good fight: Want to leave, choose to stay and the powerful practice of loving faithfully about strengthening their marriage after the former soccer player sought treatment for sex addiction.

“I went out with only a few women in my life,” the former NFL player wrote in it. “Most of my relationships can be described more as ‘talking to’, which essentially means we sleep together, but I never committed enough to get my feelings involved. And when I committed, I necessarily did. I could not be alone. “

“Well, I loved it and still love being Jana’s husband, but early in the relationship I had no idea who I was anymore,” he later added.

Kramer has been open about Caussin’s multiple cases in the past, specifically those in 2016, the same year the two divorced. (They renewed their marriage vows in December 2017.)

“The pain consumed me every thought and hurt me more physically than I thought I could handle,” she wrote in an essay Good morning America. “When I think back, it looks like a terrible nightmare I would not wish on anyone.”

And although Caussin’s decisions were difficult to swallow, she then wrote that she ‘grew into therapy’ and ‘grew as a partner’ because of the work he ‘did to himself’.

Around that time in 2016 – when she was on Dancing with the stars and he was getting treatment for sex addiction – the couple revealed that Caussin had actually filed for divorce and that the two had been divorced for several weeks. (They read passages from their book on their Cry off podcast.)

“Mike was in rehab and I was in a total war with my emotions. Most days I would push Mike out of my brain and try to live in the world as if he did not exist,” she reads. The good fight. “Other days I was too weak to push, and I missed him, and I was hoping he would be in the audience to see me perform and root for me.”

“There are so many days during the first year of our reconciliation, after the discovery of my affairs, when we thought, ‘What’s going on?’ Honestly, most days were like that, “he reads from another section of the book. ‘Needless to say, many of those days were filled with pain and hurt and sadness and despair.’

“Nothing is perfect,” Kramer then wrote. “I took this photo to almost remind myself that at the moment it looks like everything is doomed, no.”

“No relationship is perfect, and sometimes we can believe it’s over and when there’s bloating or fights, but it’s really a moment for growth and more understanding and to lean in your partner,” she added.

“Just know that this is not the end of the world,” she continues. “And we all have these moments, so you’re not alone. Fights happen. No relationship is perfect. Now the important thing is finally that you fight the good fight together? … you are not alone in your fight. “
