The Calvin Turner (7) in Hawaii is looking for running space through the Houston defense during the second quarter of the New Mexico Bowl NCAA football game in Frisco, Texas, on December 24th. Turner announced on Twitter today that he is heading to the Rainbow Warriors for the 2021 season.
The soccer player of the University of Hawaii soccer team – Calvin Turner – will return to the Rainbow Warriors for the 2021 season.
Turner announced his decision to stay at UH on Twitter.
Turner was transferred to UH after Jacksonville dropped its soccer program after the 2019 season. Turner, who was Jacksonville’s fullback for three years, had a breakthrough in the 2020 season for the Warriors. Turner led the Warriors with 133.4 all-purpose yards per game, scoring a team-high 70 points (66 of them on his 11 touchdowns).
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the NCAA has approved a waiver so players can retain their 2020 class in 2021. That means Turner, who was a senior in 2020, will be a fifth-year senior next season.
Turner turned down the option to apply for the 2021 NFL draft.
UH coach Todd Graham said Turner would benefit from another year of Division I football.
“Calvin is to me a man who will be the most dynamic man in the league next year,” Graham said in a telephone interview with the Honolulu Star Advertiser. ‘He could be an All-American from the first team. … I’m looking forward to coaching him and the other guys and in 2021 competing for a championship. “
