Hawaii sees 76 new cases of coronavirus as nationwide rises to 30,363

Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported 76 new coronavirus infections across the country, bringing the state’s total to 30,363 cases since the start of the pandemic.

State health officials have not reported any new coronavirus-related deaths as the death toll in the country remains at 467.

The state’s official death toll includes 369 deaths on Oahu, 53 on Hawaii Island, 41 on Maui, one on Kauai, and three Hawaii residents who died outside the state.

The US coronavirus mortality rate today is more than 559,000 and the countrywide infection is 30.9 million.

According to health officials, there are 51 cases on Oahu, 15 on Maui, five on Hawaii Island, two on Kauai and three residents in Hawaii who have been diagnosed outside the state.

The statistics released today reflect the new infection cases reported to the department on Monday.

The total number of cases of coronavirus per island since the onset of the outbreak is 23,468 on Oahu, 3,027 on Maui, 2,546 in Hawaii County, 198 on Kauai, 111 on Lanai and 34 on Molokai. There are also 979 residents of Hawaii who have been diagnosed outside the state.

Health officials also said today that 1,345 cases of the state’s total infection count are considered active. Officials say they view infections reported over the past 14 days as a ‘proxy number for active cases’. The number of active cases in the state increased by 18 today.

Per island, Oahu has 812 active cases, Maui has 368, the Big Island 154, Kauai has 10, Lanai has one, and Molokai has none.

Health officials counted 4,799 new COVID-19 test results in the current score, which has a positive rate of 1.58% across the country. According to the Hawaii COVID-19 Data Dashboard, the average average positivity rate of 7 days is 1.7%.

The COVID-19 vaccine summary in Hawaii said 668,805 vaccines were administered out of the 792,650 the state received today.

About 25% of the general population in Hawaii has received at least one dose of the vaccine. Of those who have received at least one dose of vaccine so far, 52% are 59 years or younger, while 48% are 60 years or older. These figures do not include doses administered by the federal agency and federal pharmacy program for long-term care institutions and nursing homes.

Of the 871,595 total vaccines administered across the country, 85,098 were distributed by the federal pharmacy program and 117,692 by the federal agency, officials said.

Of all the confirmed cases of Hawaii infection, 2,023 required hospitalizations, with three new hospitalizations reported today by state health officials.

Eight hospitalizations in the census are residents of Hawaii who have been diagnosed and treated outside the state. Of the 2,015 hospitalizations in the state, 1,710 were on Oahu, 183 on Maui, 108 on the Big Island, eight on Kauai, five on Lanai and one on Molokai.

According to the latest information from the department’s COVID-19 Data Dashboard, a total of 46 patients with the virus were in Hawaii hospitals as of Tuesday morning, six in intensive care units and three in ventilators.

On February 25, Oahu moved to the less restrictive Level 3 of the city’s four-level economic recovery plan after being in Level 2 since October 22. Level 3 allows for social and outdoor recreational gatherings of up to ten people, and can seat restaurants. 10 people at the table, versus five people. Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi announced changes to Tier 3 on March 11, including that bars could reopen under the same conditions as restaurants and the evening clock could be extended until midnight. Blangiardi said on Tuesday he had made a request to Governor David Ige in which he asked that the criteria for Tier 3 be raised to a seven-day average score of 50 to 100, which is currently for Tier 2.

According to Eastern Mayor, the current seven-day case for Oahu is 58 and the seven-day positive percentage is 2.0%.
