Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported 35 new coronavirus infections, bringing the state’s total to 26,889 cases since the start of the pandemic.
No new coronavirus-related deaths have been reported today as the death toll in the country is still 426. The state’s official death toll includes 340 deaths in Oahu, 53 in Hawaii, 29 in Maui, one in Kauai and three residents of Hawaii outside the state.
The US coronavirus mortality rate today is more than 486,000 and the countrywide infection count is more than 27.6 million.
Today’s new cases of infection across the country reported by the Department of Health include 25 on Oahu, seven on Maui, one on Molokai and two residents diagnosed outside of Hawaii.
The statistics released today reflect the new infection cases reported to the department on Saturday.
The total number of cases of coronavirus per island since the onset of the outbreak is 21,620 on Oahu, 2,216 in Hawaii, 1,947 on Maui, 179 on Kauai, 108 on Lanai and 27 on Molokai. There are also 792 residents of Hawaii who have been diagnosed outside the state. As a result of updated information, two cases were removed from Oahu from the state’s official counts, officials said today.
Health officials also said today that 895 cases of the state’s total infection count are considered active. Officials say they view infections reported over the past 14 days as a ‘proxy number for active cases’. The number of active cases in the state decreased by 54 today.
Per island, Oahu has 647 active businesses, Maui has 198, the Big Island 45, Molokai and Lanai each two, and Kauai has one, according to the state’s latest version.
Health officials counted 4,273 new COVID-19 test results in the current score, with a positive rate of 0.8% nationwide. The state’s 7-day average positivity rate is 1%, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard.
Of all the confirmed cases of Hawaii infection, 1,800 hospitalizations were needed, with four new hospitalizations – three in Oahu and one in Maui – reported today by state health officials.
Four counties in the census are Hawaii residents who have been diagnosed and treated outside the state. Of the 1796 hospitalizations in the state, 1,570 were on Oahu, 113 on Maui, 100 on the Big Island, seven on Kauai, five on Lanai and one on Molokai.
Health officials said that on February 7, 218,997 vaccines were administered out of the 288,050 that the state received. Of the vaccines administered, 201,553 were given to the general public and 17,444 were distributed through the federal pharmacy program, officials said. Government officials release the verified updated vaccination numbers every Wednesday.

Oahu moved to the less restrictive Level 2 of Honolulu’s four-tier economic recovery plan on October 22. To determine if Honolulu is going to move to another level, the city takes a “weekly review” of two major COVID-19 numbers every Wednesday. . To move to Level 3 from Level 2, the average of 7 days on two consecutive Wednesdays must be below 50. The average positivity rate of 7 days should also be below 2.5% on these two Wednesdays.
According to Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi’s current seven-day case for Oahu is 38 and the seven-day average positivity rate is 1.2%. The mayor announced Friday that Oahu will remain in Tier 2 until March 15, unless the country’s statistics fall below the levels that make the move to another level possible.
