Hawaii records 1 new coronavirus death in Oahu and 48 additional infections nationwide

Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported a new coronavirus death on Oahu and 48 new infections, bringing the state’s total to 426 deaths and 26,856 cases since the start of the pandemic.

No further information was immediately available on the latest death.

The official death toll from the state’s official coronavirus includes 340 deaths on Oahu, 53 on the island of Hawaii, 29 on Maui, one on Kauai and three Hawaii residents who died outside the state.

Separately, the Navy said today that a Hawaiian sailor died from complications of COVID-19 in Virginia where he was stationed. The death of the sailor was not reported in the official count of the state.

The US coronavirus mortality rate today is more than 485,000, as the nationwide infection has risen to more than 27.6 million.

Officials said the new health infections across the country today include 38 people on Oahu, four on Maui, three on the Big Island and three residents diagnosed outside of Hawaii.

The statistics released today reflect the new infection cases reported to the department on Friday.

The total number of cases of coronavirus per island since the onset of the outbreak is 21,597 on Oahu, 2,216 in Hawaii, 1,940 on Maui, 179 on Kauai, 108 on Lanai and 26 on Molokai. There are also 790 residents of Hawaii who have been diagnosed outside the state. As a result of updated information, two cases over Oahu have been removed from the state’s official scores, officials said today.

Health officials also said today that 949 cases of the state’s total infection count are considered active. Officials say they view infections reported over the past 14 days as a ‘proxy number for active cases’. The number of active cases in the state decreased by 34 today.

Per island, Oahu has 681 active cases, Maui has 211, the Big Island has 52, Kauai has 179, Lanai has 108 and Molokai has 26, according to the state’s latest version.

Health officials counted 5,314 new COVID-19 test results in the current score, with a positive rate of 0.8% nationwide. According to the COVID-19 Data Dashboard of Hawaii, the average average positivity rate of 7 days is 0.9%.

Of all the confirmed cases of Hawaii infection, 1,796 hospitalizations are needed, with four new hospitalizations – three in Oahu and Maui – reported today by state health officials.

Four counties in the census are Hawaii residents who have been diagnosed and treated outside the state. Of the 1796 hospitalizations in the state, 1,567 were on Oahu, 112 on Maui, 100 on the Big Island, seven on Kauai, five on Lanai and one on Molokai.

According to the latest information from the department’s COVID-19 Data Dashboard, a total of 45 patients with the virus were in Hawaii hospitals as of Friday morning, with 13 in intensive care units and 10 in ventilators.

Health officials said that on February 7, 218,997 vaccines were administered out of the 288,050 that the state received. Of the vaccines administered, 201,553 were given to the general public and 17,444 were distributed through the federal pharmacy program, officials said. Government officials release the verified updated vaccination numbers every Wednesday.

Oahu moved to the less restrictive Level 2 of Honolulu’s four-tier economic recovery plan on October 22. To determine if Honolulu is going to move to another level, the city takes a “weekly review” of two major COVID-19 numbers every Wednesday. . To move to Level 3 from Level 2, the average of 7 days on two consecutive Wednesdays must be below 50. The average positivity rate of 7 days should also be below 2.5% on these two Wednesdays.

According to Eastern Mayor Rick Blangiardi, the current seven-day case for Oahu is 38 and the average of seven days positive is 1.0%. The mayor announced Friday that Oahu will remain in Tier 2 until March 15, unless the country’s statistics fall below the levels that make it possible to move it to another level.
