Have you turned off WhatsApp?

Between the changes to the terms of service of WhatsApp, the deduction of support for older operating systems and the ongoing privacy flaw with Whatsapp owner Facebook in iOS countries, many people are making the switch from WhatsApp to other messaging services – Elon Musk included. Today’s poll asks: Did you take a dive and switch from WhatsApp (assuming you used it at all)?

This is probably the hardest thing about switching to the messaging programs online, but maybe you can change your email address. And in large part, it’s because it’s not really up to you. We all get stuck with everything our friends and family have, and it’s an important task to convince everyone to jump with you. (I still need to use Google Hangouts for this reason.)

Here in the United States, things like SMS are still widely used because it is the basic common denominator among everyone who owns a phone but in many other markets WhatsApp dominates. More recently, the tide seems to be shifting – not unexpectedly between the drastic changes in the app’s privacy policy and the negative perceptions that are growing around the parent company Facebook. We’ve seen a lot of strong pressure from private lawyers and ordinary people to go to services like Signal and Telegram, and it seems like people are paying attention in a way they have not done before.

So did you switch from WhatsApp to something else? Feel free to tune in with your recommendations (if you can help readers) or any tips for getting friends and family involved.
