Harris talks to Netanyahu amid ICC inquiry

Vice President Harris spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin NetanyahuBenjamin (Bibi) Netanyahu MORE telephonically Thursday after the Biden government condemned the International Criminal Court for “unfairly” targeting Israel in its new investigation.

In the call, Harris praised Netanyahu for his peace talks with other countries in the Middle East and reaffirmed the US commitment to ensure Israel’s security, especially with regard to Iran and its nuclear program.

“She expressed strong support for Israel’s recent pioneering standardization agreements with countries in the Arab and Muslim world, and stressed the importance of promoting peace, security and prosperity for Israelis and Palestinians,” the call said in a statement.

Harris and Netanyahu also discussed COVID-19 and how the two countries can work together to fight the pandemic that has plagued the world for a year.

“They discussed the importance of promoting scientific cooperation between our two countries and the efforts to curb the COVID-19 pandemic,” the statement said.

However, in a tweet later that day, Netanyahu called for a “joint team” between the countries to fight the virus that was not discussed in the press release.

The Hill issued the White House for comment.

The two also discussed their ‘opposition’ to the International Criminal Court, which is investigating alleged war crimes against Israel in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The Biden government believes that the ICC does not have jurisdiction over Israel and that the investigation is targeting the country ‘unfairly’, According to Ned Price, State Department spokesman.
