A Dutchman went viral because he skated half-naked on a frozen canal – and dipped in after the ice burst.
Seen in a video almost 7 million times On Tuesday morning on Twitter, the unknown man was wearing only tight black shorts as he slid across the Keizersgracht canal in Amsterdam.
His feet suddenly sank under a section of cracked ice and turned into a flying Dutchman as he shot forward and the first face fell through the rest.
Soon it was not only the ice that cracked, but also those who watched him, with the track posted Sunday, capturing his audience and laughing as he raised his head to show he was safe.
After initially looking dazed, the skater joked about his ‘face-plant’ and gave a bow after he was finally pulled to safety by another skater on a thicker piece of ice.
A series of accidents recently led Prime Minister Mark Rutte to warn his country, conceding that “skating on natural ice makes the hearts of many Dutch people beat faster.”
Rutte was particularly concerned about people being admitted to hospital during the pandemic, and of endangering themselves by abandoning safety protocols, NL Times noted.
‘Unfortunately, all those terrible coronavirus measures apply to that ice. It is not the case that the virus makes the virus less contagious, certainly not, ”Rutte said. ‘So enjoy it wisely, keep your distance and stay home when it gets too busy. Adhere to all measures and on top of that prevent hospitals from getting busier due to all kinds of bone fractures. ”
