Mexican authorities say gunmen on two motorcycles broke into a weekend party and robbed those at the home, then returned a few minutes later and opened fire, killing six men and one woman.
MEXICO CITY – Armed men on two motorcycles erupted in a weekend party and robbed those at home, returning a few minutes later and setting it on fire, killing six men and one woman, authorities in northern Mexico reported Sunday.
Jalisco state prosecutors said the attack took place late Saturday. Jalisco has long been home to the cartel of the same name, but the attack took place near the border with the state of Zacatecas, where several drug gangs fought for territory.
A gunshot wound to the head in neighboring Michoacan has injured several people. Police said three assailants opened fire on partygoers in the city of Uruapan. Local media reported there were children at the party and among the wounded.
While authorities in most states in Mexico were discouraged from holding parties during the coronavirus pandemic, there was little enforcement. Mexican federal government has advised states not to arrest people or fine them for such behavior.
