Gunman, who is suspected of killing three people in Austin, is the former sheriff’s detective.

A manhunt was underway Sunday night for a former law enforcement officer suspected of shooting dead three people in Austin, Texas, in a ‘domestic situation’. Police have identified the suspect as Stephen Nicholas Broderick, a 41-year-old former detective at the Sheriff’s office in Travis County. Broderick, a former property crime detective, resigned in June after being charged with sexually assaulting a child.

Police said the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous, but it is not clear if he is still in the city. “The victim was all known to this suspect,” Austin Interim Police Chief Joseph Chacon said. “At this point, we do not think this person is there who is aimed at random people to shoot.” But Chacon warned there was concern that Broderick “might take a hostage” while the hunt is carried out.

The charges were not identified, but it was two women and a man. A child was also located but was safe. They were all pronounced dead at the scene of the crime after police responded to a 911 call. Broderick spent 16 days in jail in June after being charged with sexually assaulting a child. He later posted bail, which was set at $ 50,000. He was first placed on administrative leave but later resigned. Seven years earlier, Broderick had been investigated after he and another officer shot a 78-year-old man who later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities were searching for the former Austin officer, authorities arrested the suspected gunman early Sunday morning in a shooting at a bar in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, killing three people and injuring three others. The arrest sparked a massive hunt for the suspected armed man, which involved about 100 officers. “We do not believe it was a random act,” said Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth. “We believe our suspect knew who he was targeting.”

The two shootings this past weekend continue with a recent surge in gun violence across the country. On Thursday night, a gunman entered a FedEx plant in Indianapolis and opened fire, killing eight people.
