GTA V on PS5 / XSX uses RDR2’s Refine RAGE Engine, Insider suggests

GTA V Enhance for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S can use Rockstar’s updated Red Dead Redemption 2 RAGE engine.

GTA V Enhanced, the next generation version of the 2013 GTA episode, is coming later this year, and according to Rockstar insider ‘Tez2’, the expanded and improved version of the game may be on the latest version of the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (ANGRY ).

Red Dead Redemption 2 weapon found in GTA Online After Hours Update; Instructions for unlocking included

As published on the GTA forums, Tez2 (which has been at stake in the past in terms of Rockstar-related information) has found new GTA V game data recently added. These new ‘structs’ apparently mention RDR2’s Rage engine instead of the game’s redesigned 2014 engine. The refined 2018 version of the RAGE engine supports physically based version, fog values, pre-calculated global illumination, volumetric clouds and fog values.

The insider does mention that this only indicates that only the UI of the new engine will be used, while the rest of the PS5 / XSX version will work in the older engine.

Discover new structures added to the recent standalone update, and one of them is “anger :: fwuiMessageBase”, which comes from RDR2’s RAGE version, so it looks like it’s @ Spider-Vice & @ uNi states that the enhanced edition is likely to use RDR2’s RAGE version, ‘Tez2 wrote. “However, it may just be that the UI will use the base code of RDR2, while the rest will remain the same.”

Another interesting thing is that the updated game files seem to indicate that players can transfer their characters once the enhanced versions of GTA V are released.

Interesting stuff for sure. Red Dead Redemption 2 remains one of the most beautiful games to date, and we can only hope that GTA V will use the same car on the next consoles.
