Last year, Rockstar Games announced GTA 5 and GTA Online for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. At the moment, the developer noted that the pair would be coming to the next generation of consoles in an “extended and improved” form. At the time of publication, no additional details are being provided about the ports and how they will be expanded and improved, but a new leak has conveyed the version of one feature that players can expect. Unfortunately, it’s not very exciting, but it’s one that players will hear relieved when it’s going on.
Word of the function comes the way of a recent GTA Online updates, and more specifically, the files of this update. With the update, Rockstar Games has added new files for character transfers. The files themselves – ‘CHasCharacterToTransferDecisionPage’ – do not reveal anything directly, but it appears that Rockstar Games is working on a character transfer process for when the game arrives on PS5 and Xbox Series X. In other words, it sounds like players do not have to start over with a brand new character, but rather be able to transfer their progress to the new machines.
While this may be an obvious feature, especially since the game did this PS4 and Xbox One, it was far from a guarantee. It would be very easy for Rockstar Games to force players to start over, as it can have more financial benefits than players transferring their character. Of course, that would be a big PR mistake, but it could justify the decision while hiding behind the “extended and improved” marketing slogan. That said, it looks like Rockstar Games will avoid this pitfall and allow character transfers.
