This week in Far North Queensland, Australia, a group of friends and one of their babies were driving to a waterfall when they got stuck between two flooded creeks. They tried to drive over one of the sprouts, but the car killed the car and there was no reception from the cell to call for help. After one of the individuals spent in the rain, he had the idea to connect his cell phone to a drone and send it into the air in the hope that his SOS message would be sent out. It worked! Emergency services sent a shovel and a team with chainsaws to rescue them. From ABC Far North:
“He was smart enough to think that if he typed the message on his phone and pressed send, it would keep sending until it was received,” [State Emergency Service area controller James] Gegg said.
‘When he brought [the drone] below he confirms that the message was sent so that he received receipt … which sounded the alarm and activated people.
