Greece to loosen restrictions on Covid-19 makes quick tests available to all

Greek Civil Protection Minister Nikos Chardalias on Friday announced a series of amendments to the existing Covid-19 measures in Greece.

From Saturday, the existing weekend evening clock will start from 19:00 to 05:00 later, in effect from 21:00 to 05:00.

Hair salons will open across Greece by appointment on Monday, the first step in reopening non-essential businesses in the country.

Archaeological sites across the country will welcome visitors from Saturday. Those wishing to visit should send the number “6” to the authorities, wear a mask and go to the site on foot or by bicycle – not by car.

Greeks living by the sea will now be allowed to fish by also sending the number “6”, as announced on Friday.

Churches will be open on the Holy Days to believers with strict social distance measures. Priests and others working in the church, as well as visitors, will quickly test for coronavirus.

However, most of the existing measures will remain in force. Citizens may only travel within the municipality of their home according to current measures.

In addition, Greeks must leave their homes sending the number “6” to exercise, do so on foot or by bicycle, and may not ride a car.

Deputy Prime Minister Akis Skertsos has announced that Greece will offer free rapid coronavirus tests to everyone in pharmacies across the country, so that a true picture of the current epidemiological situation in the country can be assessed.

Intubations continue to increase in Greece

A total of 649 patients with Covid-19 are being intubated in Greece on Friday, surpassing Thursday’s record of 645 patients, which is the highest number of people who have ever undergone treatment in the country.

Greece on Friday identified a total of 2,785 cases of the coronavirus in the country, 288 less than the record high of 3,073 cases diagnosed in the country on Thursday.

The number of patients with Covid-19 currently intubated in Greece reached 649 on Friday, which is four more than the previous day.

A total of 52,850 coronavirus tests were performed across the country during the day, bringing the positivity rate in Greece to 5.27%. Yesterday, Thursday, the positivity was 5.73%.

Tragically, 64,45 people with coronavirus have died in the country in the past 24 hours, which is 19 more than those who died with the virus on Thursday.

1,281 cases of Attica diagnosed at Covid-19 alone; 302 in Thessaloniki

Of the 2,785 cases of coronavirus recorded in Greece in the past 24 hours, 1,281 were in Attica, home of the Greek capital Athens.

Cases of the virus were particularly high in the center of the city itself, where 317 cases of Covid-19 were identified Friday.

Piraeus, the port city of Athens, had a total of 197 cases of the virus on Friday.

Tests have shown that a total of 302 cases of Covid-19 have been diagnosed in Thessaloniki, Greece’s second largest city, in the past 24 hours.

A total of 233,079 coronavirus cases in Greece since the start of the pandemic

Since the start of the pandemic, a total of 233,079 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the country, including all who have recovered from the virus.

Of the cases diagnosed in Greece over the past seven days, only 75 are related to foreign travel and 2,101 have been linked to contact with a known case.

Of the 649 patients currently intubated, 82.6% are older than 70 or suffer from pre-existing conditions. Their average age is 68.

Just Friday, 507 people with the coronavirus were admitted to hospitals in Greece.

A total of 1,555 patients from ICUs across the country have also been discharged since the start of the pandemic.

The 64 new deaths recorded Friday bring the total number of deaths in the country to 7,361, and 95.8% of those who died with the virus were over 70 years old or suffered from underlying health problems.
