Olivia Newton-John spoke out against fans who recently complained about her iconic film “Grease”, calling it sexist and misogynistic.
“I think it’s a little silly,” the 72-year-old said on the podcast A Life Of Greatness. “I mean, this movie was made in the 1970s over the 1950s.”
Newton-John played Sandy Olsson High School who falls for local bad boy Danny Zuko (John Travolta).
“Grease” was broadcast on the BBC during Christmas 2020 and, according to UK UK, encouraged people to voice their opinion on Twitter.

One person said: “The break-up session between Danny and Sandy did not age well. Movie moves quite right into the song (” Sandy “) before viewers get the date rapey vibe of the scene they just saw register # Fat. “
Another one said, “Ahhh man. Just watch #Smear one of my favorite movies and it’s so of his time. Misogynistic, sexist and a bit of rape.”

Someone else pointed out that there is very little diversity on the screen. “There were no black actors or students in high school,” they wrote.
Newton-John pointed out: “It was a stage play, it’s a musical, it’s fun. It’s a fun film musical not to be taken so seriously.”
