Salvatore “Sam” Anello, 51, who pleaded guilty in the death of Chloe Wiegand to criminal negligent murder in October, was sentenced by a San Juan judge to three years probation on Monday.

Anello’s attorney said his client is going to serve his probationary period in Indiana.
Anello was with his family aboard the Royal Caribbean Cruise ship Freedom of the Seas in July 2019 when his granddaughter fell to her death.
He said he did not drink and that he did not hang the toddler through the window, as some reports claimed shortly after the incident.
The ship was moored in San Juan at the time.

He told authorities he had lifted Chloe to the window of a children’s play area on the ship and was unaware that the window was open when she fell overboard.
The girl’s parents have a lawsuit against Royal Caribbean.
