GTA 5’s Lamar frying Franklin memes have been appearing in game circles for the past few days. The meme format, which we reported here on ComicBook.com just a few days ago, has evolved even further since then. Now it has perhaps reached its crescendo with probably the best version of the meme that has just emerged.
Thanks to PlayStation Haven, the YouTube channel was able to get the right actors for both Lamar and Franklin to portray their roles as each character and play out the scene in person. Slink Johnson and Shawn Fonteno, who each portray Lamar and Franklin respectively, can be seen in the video below showing the iconic cut-up image of Grand Theft Auto V with absolute perfection. Everything about it, from the way the camera moves to the intonation in both the voices of Johnson and Fonteno, is nailed down in this version.
What is most fascinating to me about this whole video is the fact that it even exists quickly. This Lamar-fried Franklin meme format has only gained traction over the past week or two, so Fonteno and Johnson got together to play this scene out so quickly is a little surprising. I would have thought that it might become a thing in a few weeks or months, but that both actors could make it happen in the height of the internet’s popularity is really nice. An outcry to Fonteno and Johnson for doing so and surely putting a smile on many people around the world.
