Gran Turismo Sport transformed Sony’s flagship simulation racing series into a hugely popular e-sport, and was thus successful in pushing the brand forward. Series fans, however, lament the lack of a single-player campaign as in previous entries; after all, the loose RPG-inspired car collection mode of previous titles was a big part of the brand’s long-term success.
We already know that Gran Turismo 7 on the PlayStation 5 will be a combination of the “past, present and future”, which means that it will include a full solo mode. However, in an interview with journalist Toshifumi Watanabe for Octane Japan – as translated by the GT Planet – series maker Kazunori Yamauchi reiterated that we can expect a more traditional experience this time around.
‘While he elements like the [FIA] championship realized in GT Sport, Gran Turismo 7 will return to the royal goal of full volumes such as [Gran Turismo] 1-4, and currently offers the best Gran Turismo experience, ”he said. The translation is a bit strange, but we’m sure you can deduce from this.
It feels like the natural next step for the franchise, to be honest. Clearly, the e-sports aspect is going nowhere – and the multiplayer mode was so successful on the PS4, that we would not want it – but it would build a more traditional single-player experience , and we think it’s going to be a big hit when it hits PS5 later this year.
