Earlier on Sunday, Trump issued a statement criticizing Biden’s goal of withdrawing all troops from Afghanistan on September 11, but saying that “getting out of Afghanistan is a wonderful and positive thing to do.”
“I planned to withdraw on May 1, and we need to stay as close to the schedule as possible,” Trump wrote.
In a series of tweets on Sunday night, Graham, who previously denounced Biden’s plan to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan, writes, “With all due respect to former President Trump, there is nothing ‘wonderful’ or ‘positive’ about being safe. allowing ports and a sanctuary for terrorists to return to Afghanistan or to return to Afghanistan in another civil war. ”

Graham has questioned the ability of the Taliban to police al-Qaida and ISIS, which he says is an important provision in the agreement to withdraw troops.
“The withdrawal intelligence is ominous for US interests and no one believes the Taliban can be trusted with the police of Al Qaeda and ISIS as proposed by the Biden-Trump plan,” Graham wrote.
He went on to address both Biden and Trump as “general” and expressed his fear that “Afghanistan will get worse over time”.
“We will see if ‘General’ Biden and ‘General’ Trump’s withdrawal strategy turns out to be a sound national security policy,” Graham wrote.
“For the sake of our nation, the people of Afghanistan and the entire region, I hope that President Biden and former President Trump are proven right and that our military and intelligence communities are wrong. However, I doubt it very seriously as I have seen this film in Iraq and I fear that Afghanistan will get worse over time. It is important that those who make these decisions judge fairly but definitely, ”he added.

On Tuesday, one day before Biden formally set out his plan to withdraw troops from Afghanistan, Graham took the step and wrote in a statement: “A complete withdrawal from Afghanistan is dumber than dirty and demonic dangerous. Biden formally announced Wednesday his plan to withdraw troops from Afghanistan and end America’s longest war by Sept. 11, pushing back Trump’s initial deadline of May 1. The first target date was set in an agreement with the Taliban signed by the Trump administration last year.
Speaking in the White House Convention Room, where former President George W. Bush announced the start of the war, Biden said, “The war in Afghanistan was never meant to be a multigenerational enterprise,” he said. added: “It’s time for the eternal war.”
