Grading RB Chris Carson signs with the Seahawks again: B

On Friday, the Seahawks dedicated their philosophy of equilibrium violation by re-signing Chris Carson on what was originally reported as a $ 24.625 million three-year deal with void years.

The mechanics of the deal are a little more team-friendly.

Since being drafted from Oklahoma State in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Carson has been almost a cult hero among both Seahawks Twitter – which is something of a legend in itself – and fantasy football Twitter. Of course, back-to-back 1000 yard seasons could also have something to do with it, which Carson posted in both 2018 and 2019. Carson ran for 1,230 yards on 278 runs during the 2019 campaign and also caught 37 passes for 266 yards and a few touchdowns.

There are still concerns about Carson. First, there is the injury history. Carson’s 2019 season was cut short with a hip fracture and he has also missed time with a sprained foot in the past year. Then there is the fuss. It dates back to his time with Oklahoma State, where he lost to the ball, and it continues into his NFL days. Back in 2019, Carson fumbled seven times – including four lost fumbles – and was also at odds with quarterback Russell Wilson at the mesh point, leading to some fumbles the quarterback picked up.

These two factors would play into any negotiation over the off-season. But the opportunity to add a running rugby again with a few seasons of 1000 meters will interest most front offices, and no front office more than that of Seattle.
