Governor omits details of handling pandemics

SACRAMENTO, California (AP) Gavin Newsom, governor of California, painted a positive picture of the state’s pandemic response during his state of the nation address. But some of his statements Tuesday night did not have a significant connection or distort the facts.

He calls California’s death rate one of the lowest per capita in the country, but data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that California ranks 28th.

Newsom says California has one of the strongest vaccine distribution programs in the country, but it is behind many other states in doses per capita. He suggests the plans for reopening the school, but there are still many questions about what will open and when.
