Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo briefed New Yorkers today on the state’s vaccination program. Today at 11 a.m., New York distribution sites administered 93 percent of the first doses delivered so far. The week 10 allocation from the federal government has been delayed due to winter storms hitting much of the country, but the remaining week 10 deliveries are arriving today and over the next few days. The award of week 11 begins mid-week.
“New York has an extensive network of vaccine providers to ensure that every eligible New Yorker has access to the vaccine, including community-based mass vaccination, such as the one I toured today at Medgar Evers College in the heart of Brooklyn,” Governor Cuomo said. “These targeted sites are improving access and bringing the vaccine right into the black, brown and poor communities hardest hit by the pandemic. But increased access alone is not winning the war. We are still seeing a lack of public confidence in the vaccine. among black and Hispanic New Yorkers. I understand the mistrust, but that is not true with this vaccine. and New York is COVID-free. “
About 10 million New Yorkers are currently eligible to receive the vaccine. New York’s extensive distribution network and the large population of eligible individuals still exceed the supply coming from the federal government. Due to the limited supply, New Yorkers are encouraged to be patient and are advised not to show up at the vaccination sites without an appointment.
The ‘Am I Eligible’ selection tool has been updated for individuals with concomitant conditions and underlying conditions with new appointments being released on an ongoing basis over the coming weeks. From next week, local departments will also receive vaccines for these individuals. New Yorkers can use the following to indicate their eligibility:
- Doctor’s letter, or
- Medical information proving compassion, or
- Signed certification
The numbers of the vaccination program below are for doses distributed and delivered for the New York State vaccination program, and do not include those offered for the federal government’s long-term care program. A breakdown of the data based on numbers reported to New York State by 11 a.m. today is as follows. As of week 9, the grant totals contain some excess vaccine doses that have been redistributed from the federal long-term care program. So far, the distribution sites in New York have administered 93 percent of the first doses of the federal government, but due to the limited allocation from the federal government, the appointments have been quickly filled. New Yorkers who want to determine fitness and plan an appointment at a state-run mass vaccination center can visit the “Am I Eligible” website. New Yorkers can also call their local health department, pharmacy, doctor, or hospital for additional information and to schedule appointments where vaccinations are available.
The COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker Dashboard is available to keep New Yorkers informed of the spread of the COVID-19 vaccine. The New York Department of Health requires that vaccination facilities report all COVID-19 vaccine data within 24 hours; the data on vaccine administration on the dashboard are updated daily to reflect the most recent measures in the state’s vaccination effort.
New Yorkers who suspect fraud in the vaccine distribution process can now call 833-VAX-SCAM (833-829-7226) free of charge or email the State Department at: [email protected]. Hotline staff will send complaints to the appropriate investigative agencies to ensure New Yorkers are not being exploited as the state works to vaccinate the entire population.
