Governor Cuomo announces the state to expand the vaccination network to include sites designed to serve 65-plus populations

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced today that the state will work with local health departments to include vaccination sites for the 65+ population in New York State. These sites will partner with local health departments and, where necessary, assist New Yorkers with transportation to and from the vaccination facilities and special support for the paperwork regarding their vaccination. As the allocation of vaccines in the state of New York increases, these 65+ facilities and appointments will be made possible by additional supplies from the federal government. Provinces in the state of New York will receive a larger amount of Moderna vaccine for this purpose from next week.

“New York is getting more and more needles in its arms every day, with the focus on vaccinating our most vulnerable residents,” Governor Cuomo said. ‘We know our senior New Yorkers are at greater risk with COVID, and it’s critical that we give them access to vaccine rights in their own communities, as well as the help they need to plan and to and from to come to their appointments. . Working with our local health departments to establish these sites will help ensure that receiving a vaccine is as simple as possible for the 65+ population, and bring us closer to achieving our goal of social equity and equity through the distribution of vaccines. ”

New York has worked to implement a number of improvements to the hotline to further enhance the dating process and experience for the elderly, a line specifically for New Yorkers who are 75 years old and provide them with direct access to staff who can help with the scheduling or answering questions.

Website details, including locations, opening dates and hours of operation, will be available from the site host or sponsor. As a reminder, eligible New Yorkers can schedule appointments at state mass vaccination sites using the New York Web site or by calling the state’s COVID-19 vaccination hotline at 1-833-NYS- 4-VAX (1- 833-697-4829). At the end of 2020, the Governor announces the launch of the Vaccine Vaccine Task Force in New York, chaired by Secretary of State Rossana Rosado, President and CEO of the National Urban League, Marc Morial, and the President and Health CEO Pat Wang. Since its inception, the Task Force has continued to work to ensure that vulnerable and underserved communities are not left behind by breaking down barriers to vaccination and ensuring that the vaccine is distributed fairly.

In addition, New York has established more than 104 temporary community-based ‘pop-up’ vaccination sites at churches, community centers, and public housing complexes directly within communities across the state, which are subordinated to traditional health care systems. Since January 15, these sites have enabled approximately 45,000 New Yorkers to receive their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on these pop-up sites in the community. After the administration of the first doses, the sites are re-established three weeks later to administer the second doses.

New York will continue to establish these pop-up sites until they are placed with all 33 NYCHA Senior Housing Developments, which house more than 7,600 seniors. Pop-up locations will also continue to be located at other public housing complexes across the country, as well as at more than 300 churches and cultural centers that have been offered voluntarily to host these sites by Governor Cuomo’s vaccine task force.
