GOP Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert on Thursday suggested that President Biden was a ‘tyrant’ after arguing that the Second Amendment was not ‘absolute’, while revealing executive action was intended to limit violence against violence.
The criticism of Boebert, a first-term congressman and a vocal proponent of gun rights, follows Biden’s remarks the same day in the Rose Garden regarding the government’s gun control measures. During the speech, Biden argued that none of his actions ‘in any way affected the Second Amendment’, claiming that the Second Amendment was never intended to protect all forms of gun ownership.
“No amendment to the Constitution is absolute,” Biden said. “You can not shout ‘fire’ in a crowded movie theater and call it freedom of speech. From the beginning you could not possess any weapon you wanted to possess. From the beginning that the Second Amendment existed, certain people were may not have weapons. ‘
Shortly after the speech, Boebert argued that Biden had misrepresented the Second Amendment.
“The second amendment is absolute,” Boebert wrote on Twitter. “Anyone who says otherwise is a tyrant.”
Biden set out a list of gun control measures, including tightened restrictions on so-called “ghost guns”, gun-stabilizing brackets and a mandate from the Department of Justice to develop legislation for a “red flag” law that temporarily identifies individuals would block as potential threats to gun ownership.
