Google is testing a new background for Assistant Smart Screens that shows how a frog can enjoy or handle the cartoon in real time. The character, Froggy, was previously a regular contributor to Google’s search results, and has also been featured in a number of Google Doodles as a minor character. Now 9to5Google reports that the critter is randomly popping up as a new “Photo Frame” option for the smart screens for users on Reddit and Twitter, where it appears alongside existing backgrounds, such as images displayed from your Google Photos account.
The software describes the screensaver as a sweet frog to give you an animated weather experience. When enabled, the screen displays the current weather, a two-day weather forecast and an animation of Froggy in the current conditions. 9to5Google note that these animations include Froggy sunbathing when the weather is good, or hiding under a plant pot when it rains.
Froggy has been appearing on smart screens since at least September last year. If it’s more widely available, the background will appear as an option in response to the “Hey Google, change photo frame” voice prompt.
