Google’s Cloud Print ‘service discontinued soon

Briefly: Another service joins Google Cemetery, for better or worse. As the latest in a long line of Google service exclusions, Cloud Print will be discontinued within a few short days, meaning it will no longer be accessible to ChromeOS customers or others.

Most Internet users have probably never used Cloud Print once – it was designed primarily for ChromeOS customers who years ago had limited or no access to traditional printers.

However, now that ChromeOS boasts much broader support for printing devices, Cloud Print is obsolete. It still has some unique benefits, such as the ability to share your printers with friends, but mostly there’s no reason for Google to like it.

In other words, in the worst case, the termination of Cloud Print would be a slight inconvenience for some. For others, even ChromeOS users, just remember to switch your default printer to another device – easy enough.

The exact date of the shutdown of Cloud Print is December 31, 2020, which is just two days. If for any reason you liked using the service, make sure you did all the printing before New Year’s Eve.

If you are not sure how to turn off Cloud Print, Google has a complete “migration guide” to help you.
