Back in November, Google announced that Docs, Sheets, Slides, and other workspace files would count toward storage caps. It is expected to launch on June 1 for personal accounts, but Workspace users will be extended until 2022.
Google Workspace accounts, such as free personal users, are still planning to qualify for their Drive Quotas in Google Photos in June. There is no change to this milestone.
However, newly created Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, Forms or Jamboard files by Workspace users will not be eligible on February 1, 2022. In the meantime, existing files of those products will also not count for storage ‘modified again on or after February 1, 2022. ”Google Keep and Sites remain exempt from these rules.
Administrators today can review the Apps (General> Photos & Drive sections) user report for a “comprehensive look at storage usage” in their organization. However, Google is working on new space management tools.
This delay is due to Google waiting to make sure that these ‘new administration tools to identify and manage how storage is used and allocated’ are in place before the policy takes effect.
We decided to postpone the counting of Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, Forms or Jamboard files to storage quotas until the tools are ready.
