We have known for some time that the time of the Google Wifi app was short. Last year, the company mentioned that it was planning to move all its features to the Google Home app, and although virtually all of the process was almost complete, the standalone Wifi app has existed with Home until now. From May 25, 2021, Google will deprive the app of its ability to function and simply make it a place to view information about your wireless setup.
If you do not yet need to migrate your Google Wifi network to the Google Home app, you can do so by following the steps below. Once you do that, you will be able to manage everything in one place. This process will also work for the long forgotten OnHub device before Google Wifi.

- Open the Google Home app

- Tap Add device or service
Enter the Google Wifi Network
- Choose a home and type Following.
- Confirm your Wi-Fi network, then tap Following.
- Follow the instructions in the app to add your network.
Migrating all over offers you several new benefits. First, you get enhanced video conferencing with Google Meet and Zoom. You’ll also get better insights into your network, whether it’s a notification when a new device joins your network, or detailed insights for resolving a slow or bad internet connection. The app has a fantastic news feed style home screen that tells you everything you need to know about your connected home. Finally, with more ways to control your wifi, such as just asking Google Assistant with your voice to interrupt your wifi or check internet speed, the move is not only necessary, it’s beneficial.
The Google Wifi app will be completely removed from the Play Store in June, so I recommend starting the migration now or soon. Although the Home app is fantastic, I had trouble finding the options to prioritize a connection on a specific device. I finally found it, but it was a bit buried compared to the original app.
