Google TV update Chromecast reduces corrupt data error

On Friday, the Chromecast with Google TV received its first update of the new year, and it contains a handful of major changes. We know what’s right, because Google is now putting out a change list with software releases.

Google says the new Chromecast has enhanced 4K support for TVs and audio / video receivers, while Dolby Audio enhances enhancements for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus streaming content.

The next big change means that users are less likely to experience an error showing the Android recovery screen. When it does appear, Google shows improved instructions to help users figure out how to fix it. This will hopefully reduce the likelihood of owners resetting their entire device.

With the other big change today, Google now offers release notes over the existing firmware release page in a good step towards updating transparency for Chromecast with Google TV owners. The complete list of changes for the construction of 200918,033 is below:

  • Improved 4K support for TVs and AVRs
  • Dolby Audio enhancements for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus pass-through content
  • Android recovery screen improvements and corrections
    • Reduce the appearance of users who see the Android recovery screen
    • Improved instructions when displaying the Android recovery screen
  • Security update: security level increased to 5 December 2020
  • General safety, stability and performance improvements

The 78.20 MB update was first noticed on Friday but is still running. To determine if it is available for your device: click on your profile avatar in the top right corner> Settings> System> More information> System update.
