There are signs that the wait may be over. It looks like Google has finally decided to update its major iOS apps. The company has an update for Youtube this weekend, more than two months after its last update.

As explained by 9to5Google, who noticed the update, it’s normal for Google to stop updating apps in December because of the holidays. Updates are not published during holidays because there may not be as many staff as usual to solve related problems. However, updates usually resume in early January. However, this did not happen this year, and a large amount most of Google’s iOS applications have not been updated since December.

Speculation, of course, immediately followed about a possible reason for the delay. The popular theory is related to Apple’s new privacy labels, which aims to notify users of what data apps are being collected and whether the data is linked to it or is being used to track it. Apple introduced the labels in December, and developers must now include them to update their apps and submit new apps.

This theory does not break out for YouTube, which already had labels this weekend before Google’s update. 9to5Google declares that YouTube Music, YouTube TV, en YouTube Studio at the beginning of February, everyone had their labels. Yet, none of these programs received an update in months.

Google also came out and said that the delays are not due to Apple’s privacy labels. In January, it began to expand more labels to its applications, and also a blog about privacy who called the labels.

“As Google’s iOS apps are updated with new features or to fix bugs, you will see updates on our app page list entries that contain the new app privacy information,” writes Rahul Roy-Chowdhury, vice -president of the product, privacy. “These labels represent the maximum categories of data that can be collected – that is, if you use every available feature and service in the app.”

Gizmodo asked Google to ask why other major iOS apps have not yet received updates and when we would expect them. We will update this blog when we hear it.

Does that mean Google is not worried about Apple’s new privacy labels? Oh no. Google’s main business is advertising and there’s no doubt that they talked about the labels. In this case, it’s probably safe to say that the delay in updates is related to something else. Maybe even something completely ordinary.
