Google Recorder Web Application Comes With Pixel Audio Backup

In 2019, Google will launch a powerful Recorder app with real-time transcripts for Pixel devices. The latest version, released with the Pixel 5, added editing and social sharing through video clips. A Google Recorder web application will soon be available to back up the audio on your Pixel.

Recorder.google.com, which is different from the old landing page recorder.withgoogle.com, has just been launched. Recorder for web lets you share, play, and search audio, with Google explaining how “Recordings backed up using the Recorder app on your Google Pixel will appear here.” This website only acts as a customer and does not allow users to log in from their computer.

Before loading the splash page, you can briefly see the interface of the web application. With the audio control at the bottom you can play / pause, rewind 5/10 seconds jump, scrub and volume control.

A one- or two-column layout is available, with the latter the waveform and transcription simultaneously. Users can share recordings (via link) and remove from the web application. Recordings will probably count towards your Google Drive storage cap.

Web Recorder needs an update of the Android app that is not yet available. Once that is, Pixel phones can start uploading content to the cloud. This sync capability should also mean that previous recordings keep you up to date on device upgrades, while backups replace how users today have to manually share audio via Google via the share page.

The new app version is likely to be available soon, as the web infrastructure is now available.
