If you do not use security keys, Google Prompt is the next best two-factor authentication method to protect accounts. Google is now updating the Prompt’s Android UI with a much-needed dark theme.
Compared to the previous version, the new Google Prompt centers the company logo: “Are you trying to sign in?” title and email address. Although seemingly small, it improves readability by no longer grouping it with device, near and time information.
Meanwhile, the “No, it’s not me” and “Yes” buttons now use the correct case instead of being uppercase. Together with a red ‘X’ and a green tick, it provides visual enhancements that also match the overview style of the Material Theme. Of course, the biggest one is the dark theme that helps replace the previously pure white nature of this screen.
The dark theme of Google Prompt is still in its infancy. For example, it’s live on personal accounts, but not on Workspace addresses. This change was first spotted in early 2019, but it was then not widely launched and has since undergone a handful of adjustments, including moving the buttons higher on the screen to promote accessibility.
