Last year, Google took a risk by dropping the top-of-the-range Qualcomm Snapdragon chips for the Pixel 5. Instead, he opted for the mid-sized Snapdragon 765G, which enabled the company to keep costs down while still delivering 5G connectivity. .
Assuming Google has the same plan in place for the Pixel 6, we might have looked at the SoC that will run the program for the first time. The Telegram channel XiaomiUI (despite the name not affiliated with the electronics manufacturer) has leaked a Qualcomm document containing the top specifications for the Snapdragon 775.
Separately, XDA Developers’ own sources confirmed the contents of the leak, but added that the shared images are slightly outdated. Although the broad outlines of the following are likely to be confirmed, there may be some changes for the completed slide.
The Snapdragon 775 and 775G (G versions have a slightly better gaming performance) will apparently be manufactured through a 5nm process, which improves with the 7nm approach followed with the 765. This should mean both stronger performance and greater efficiency for less battery.
In addition, the Snapdragon 775 chips are set to 3,200 MHz LPDDR5 or 2,400 MHz LPDDR4X RAM and up to UFS 3.1 storage. The chip, Spectra 570 ISP, can apparently handle up to three 28MP cameras simultaneously and supports 4K video recording at 60 fps. As you would hope with a chipset to debut in 2021, mmWave 5G support is also built-in.
This is all positive, but we’ll have to see how much faster the slide is compared to its predecessor to know if this is the home track we’re hoping for. Phones that use the Snapdragon 765, such as the Pixel 5 and OnePlus Nord, received hot reviews from us in part because they felt funny and responsive in most tasks. Even though they were not technically as capable as Snapdragon 865 devices like the Samsung Galaxy S20 (let alone Snapdragon 888 devices like the Galaxy S21), they feel more than powerful enough for most people’s needs.
There’s no reason to think that the same will not apply to the Snapdragon 775, which makes us optimistic about the state of 2021’s downtown devices. Hopefully we get a release date and an idea of pricing soon.
