Google offers a “more customized experience” on a revised Meetpocket Custom Home page that offers three exact options for creating a new meeting.
Clicking on the dark green “New Meeting” button on the left side of meet.google.com offers three options:
- Create a meeting for later: Generate connection information for a new meeting You can save this information for later use.
- Start an immediate meeting: Join the meeting with one click without first going to the Meet room. Once you were in the meeting, you can add others or copy the connection information to share.
- Schedule in Google Calendar: Go to Calendar in a new tab to create an event with conference details of Meet that are filled in automatically.
The most noticeable add-on is ‘instant meeting’ where users do not even have to specify a name for the meeting. Google does warn that “your camera and microphone will turn on automatically.” Meanwhile, the other two options are useful for short-term meetings and those who are further away. A field to enter an existing meeting code or nickname appears to the right of the button.
These changes are already available on the Google Meet experience available to free users. They are now expanding to Google Workspace clients that currently have only a single “Join or start a meeting” button. In this new design, the schedule of upcoming appointments will still be available on the right side of the screen.
The new Google Meet homepage will be introduced to Workspace clients over the next few weeks, although those at the Essentials level do not see the Calendar schedule option:
Google Workspace Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus, as well as G Suite Basic, Business, Education, Enterprise for Education and Nonprofits Clients
