Google Maps lets you draw on a map soon to fix it

If you’ve ever been frustrated by a road trip does not exist on Google Maps, the company now makes it easier than ever to add it. Google will update its map editing experience so that users can add missing paths and rename, rename, or delete incorrect paths. It calls the experience ‘drawing’, but it is closer to using the line tool in Microsoft Paint. According to the blog, the updated tool should come into effect ‘in more than 80 countries in the coming months’.

If you are currently trying to add a missing path, you can only drop a pen where the path should be and enter the name of the path to submit the information to Google. The new tool should make it easier to not only add missing roads, but to make corrections, such as determining the name of the road or its direction (for example, if the road is one-way, but Google Maps says that it is not).

With the new map editor, users can insert visually missing paths.

The current correction screen is more rudimentary.

Of course, Google will continue to review your corrections to make sure they are accurate. After submitting a change with the new tool, you will see a screen warning Google that it does not want a bike path to be marked as a road, or that someone should make a road intended for example to hurt people. The screen also says that it will take approximately seven days for the company to review your submission.

Google Maps also gets a feature called ‘photo updates’ that lets you share small details about a place without having to give a full review. In the app, you can add images of a place, as well as view recent photos with pieces of text submitted by others.

Updates should help bring out the most recent location information.
