Google launches new Pixel Buds firmware 553 update

Google last updated the second-generation Assistant headphones in September with a sound-cutout solution after a set interval. Firmware 553 is being extended to Pixel Buds today, though an update change log has not yet been provided.

The Pixel Buds have only received a dozen updates since their launch last April. A day-one update brought the firmware from version 195 to 225. This was followed by 295 at the end of May – which does not see colnotes, but 296 in June reduced the sound levels and the static effect.

In addition to the new features, the decline of the August feature (550) was addressed: stability during calls, automatic recovery after losing the connection, improved media playback stability for software-sound-coded phones, and one earphone that does not connect after the case has not been removed.

Based on the firmware update history of the Pixel Buds, 553 is likely to be a more incremental version focused on fixing bugs rather than offering new features. Google will hopefully soon list what has changed.

Open the Pixel Buds “app” and navigate to More Settings> Firmware Update to confirm that an update is pending. It should be rolled out wide this afternoon. The manual update option we saw during development last week is not yet available.

As such, the process starts by connecting the Pixel Buds to your phone. In about ten minutes, the new firmware is transferred to the headphones. After placing the eyelets in the boot, it takes another ten minutes before the upgrade takes place. All components must be adequately charged.
