Yesterday, Chrome was patched to solve a major vulnerability discovered by researchers that is actively exploited in nature. Exact details are not currently known, but an update was released for Chrome yesterday, and it would be wise to install it as soon as possible.

Google does not explain too much about how this vulnerability works “until the majority of users are updated”, and the corresponding item in the debugger is currently locked. But security researcher Mattias Buelens has reported an overflow of a heap of bumps in the Chrome V8 Javascript engine, which was set up in the latest v88.0.4324.150 version for the Stable channel. And it was not just a hypothetical exploitation; it is actively used in nature.

According to ZDNet, this could be linked to a vulnerability that security investigators themselves have been the victim of, causing malware to run on their systems.

Whatever the exact cause, Google is very clear that this usage is actively used on the internet, and you should probably update your computer as soon as possible. To manually activate an update on most platforms, you can open the three-point menu and go to Help -> About, and on the page you can activate a check or install an update if one has already been downloaded.
