Google Home 2.34 adds real-time Nest Wifi usage graphs

The latest update to Google’s companion app for home will be released this morning on Android and iOS. In addition to Home 2.34, which supports the 2nd generation Nest Hub, the Google / Nest Wifi experience gets a major update with network usage graphs.

Google / Nest WiFi usage data

Touching the round Wi-Fi button in the top shortcut row still opens the same page as before. However, the opening of the Network Card offers a new “Speed and Usage” section to supplement “Previous Speed Tests” – which now shows 15 results instead of just six.

Download and upload graphs show the “real-time use” of your Google / Nest Wifi network with smooth animations while uploading live data. “Use” is displayed as a bar graph with increments of 1-, 7- and 30 days. Meanwhile, you can also view real-time network information per device. Select a phone, tablet, computer, power device, etc. on the main network page to see the breakdown. An Info tab contains “Device Information” previously displayed as a pop-up.

These Nest Wifi usage graphs were previously a major omission for the Google Home app. This app was only available in the old Google Wifi client, which is now ripe for aging. Last year, Home added advanced Wifi settings and the ability to import existing networks.

Nest Hub Support (2nd Generation)

Google Home 2.34 also adds support for the new Nest Hub announced this morning and its sleep detection capability, which is internally called “twilight”.

Google Workspace Alerts

If a user requests to join a Google Workspace email at your home, the app has added strings that will warn how account administrators will have access to your network. This alert targets businesses rather than Workspace / G Suite domains you own.

Your administrators can also disable your access to Nest devices and services at any time.

The administrator of this account will be able to have full access to this home with this account’s username and password.

It is not recommended to join a home with a corporate Google Workspace account with external administrators.

Version 2.34 of Google Home now launches via the Play Store and iOS App Store.
