Google gives recent Pixel device owners more control over Night Sight

Thanks to the latest update, the Google Camera app now allows you to permanently disable the Auto Night Sight feature on devices that automatically turn on low light photography mode, 9to5Google reports. The feature is available with version 8.1.200 of the app, which launches Monday. With the update, you can also turn off the app’s flash settings mode.

When Google released the Pixel 4A 5G and Pixel 5 last year, it adjusted their camera apps to automatically enable Night Sight mode in low light. But using the feature means it takes longer to take photos, so there will inevitably be occasions when you do not want it to appear automatically. Annoying, like 9to5Google comments, the switch to disable this feature (bottom right of the Camera app) would be reset previously when the app is closed. As of this latest update, Auto Night Sight now remains disabled when you close the app.

In addition to allowing users to permanently turn off Auto Night Sight, the latest version of the app also adds a Night Sight switch to the app’s flash settings. The update does not appear to be available for older Pixel phones, prompting users to manually turn on Night Sight in low light, rather than turning it on automatically.
