Thomas Kurian leads what Google considers one of the most promising segments of its business: cloud computing.

Google’s business was largely dependent on advertising, but it sees cloud as a growing source of revenue – so much so that the company has recently begun to break out of Google Cloud data as a separate reporting segment in its quarterly earnings.

In the company’s latest report, Google’s cloud business generated $ 13 billion in annual revenue, 46% higher than in 2019. It’s still unprofitable, and the race is to catch competitors Amazon Web Services and Microsoft in the market .

Insider acquired Google Cloud’s internal organization chart, which identifies the top executives and staff that help CEO Thomas Kurian lead the company’s ambitious cloud business. These are the people who manage all aspects of the division, from sales and marketing to product and engineering.

Kurian is investing heavily in the growth of the company, especially in its sales organization. He is also on an executive job.

Several of his direct reports have joined the company over the past two years. Sales President in the Cloud, Robert Enslin, joined SAP in April 2019. Javier Soltero, who previously led Microsoft’s office products, joined the company in October 2019 as head of Google Cloud’s office software suite Workspace (formerly known as G Suite).

In addition, Vice President John Jester of the customer experience joined Microsoft, while Amit Zavery, the engineering president, joined Oracle.

Frank Bien, formerly CEO of data analytics firm Looker, also reports directly to Kurian as vice president. Google Cloud acquired Looker in February 2020 for $ 2.4 billion.

Google

Google Cloud still has a long way to go to catch up with AWS and Microsoft. AWS dominates the race with 45% market share, according to research firm Gartner. Microsoft retains the No. 2 spot with 17.9% of the market share, while Alibaba has 9.1%. Meanwhile, Google Cloud achieves only 5.3% of the market.

It’s not clear how often Google updates these maps, and although the data is recent, some newer changes may not be reflected. A Google spokesperson did not respond to Insider’s questions about this data at the time of publication.

We also stick to the titles as they appear internally, which are sometimes less descriptive than the titles some of these drivers use externally. Even Thomas Kurian himself is usually called the CEO of Google Cloud, despite the fact that it is internal SVP.

It’s the executives and staff members of Google who are responsible for the growth of the enterprise’s cloud business, as it is against opponents of such great size.
