Google changes the tone that plays after you cast to Nest Hubs

When broadcasting to a smart screen or speaker, Google plays a tone to confirm the transfer. Google is now changing the beep to be softer on the latest firmware from the Nest Hub preview.

The current Cast Peep has been in place for a number of years – if not unchanged from the start – and is quite deep. It plays when the screen changes, but before the currently playing user interface appears with the requested audio or video afterwards.

By comparison, the new tone is lighter and fits in very well with the friendly Nest visual and auditory design language. If it’s softer, it’s less shocking or frightening to others in the room, who may not know that a Cast session is about to begin. You can compare the two versions below:

So far we have heard the new tone live on a Nest Hub Max with the latest Cast firmware (version 1.52). It is not available on Smart Displays and speakers that use 1.50 are the current stable building for the vast majority of users. The update also adds a family tab to the recent refurbishment of Smart Display.
