Goodbye, funky hacks: you may soon download albums on the Spotify desktop application

The update to Spotify’s desktop app seems to be rolling out to users, and it has a very handy feature: album download. The app supports downloading playlists to your computer for some time. The update should make it easier to keep your library managed if you want to keep the music, even if you are not offline. It is noteworthy that this feature is limited to Premium subscribers. According to Spotify’s documentation, free users can only download podcasts.

Downloading an album works just like downloading a playlist: just navigate to the album page and press the download button. It should then be available the next time you go into Offline mode. This will make it easier to manage your offline library if you are the person who is very particular about what you want to listen to. (For example, I had a carefully compiled playlist called “Downloads” with which I would throw away songs and albums as a solution to not save individual things to listen offline.)

Now I can download individual albums and make my playlist for downloads free.

The update also includes adjustments to the look of the desktop and web player, as well as how playlist management works. It looks like it’s currently running – some Edge staff got it yesterday, others today. If you do not see it, just bite. You should see a screen letting you know you have the update.

Who does not like offline use?
