Two top QB prospects declared for NFL draft
The 49ers could be in this year’s draft for a quarterback, and two of the supposed top quarterback prospects have officially stated.
Florida’s Kyle Trask declared on December 31, and Zach Wilson of BYU declared the next day. Both players are expected to enter the draft this year after a strong season. Trask is a senior, while Wilson will leave school after his junior year.
The 49ers’ plan below center is their biggest storyline out of season. Whether they do it early or wait until day 2 or 3, it looks like San Francisco will set up a quarterback this year, with Nick Mullens and CJ Beathard both available for free agency.

Kyle Shanahan’s lack of commitment to Jimmy Garoppolo is telling. If they find a better option at the position, they will accept it. Trey Lance is a work in progress, but the features provide an intriguing match with Shanahan’s offense.
Josh Rosen Could See the Field for the 49ers in Season Finale
Kyle Shanahan indicated to his press on Friday that he wants to shell out all three of the quarterfinals for the game on Sunday. Josh Johnson will back CJ Beathard with Rosen as the third string. At first glance, there seems to be no chance that Rosen will see the field.
However, I would not rule out the possibility.
Shanahan is surely interested to see how much Rosen learned within the two weeks after he joined the team. I would even argue that he should see some Rosen. The 49ers have nothing to lose in this game, and all three of the backs can even be put out there.
Shanahan should treat his backs like a driver does with his pitcher. Let the starter play half of the game and then give the relief jars (rugby quarter) a turn (quarter) each. If Shanahan was comfortable enough, I would only give Rosen the second half and not play Johnson which is a career backup. There’s nothing to learn with Johnson.
