Golden Nuggets: Mac Jones’ Trace to the 49ers Begins

In today’s nuggets, you read the expectations for DeMeco Ryans in his first year, why Ian Rapoport says Mac Jones will not yet give the 49ers a pencil, a story about Phillip Adams, Ryan Day’s head coach, Ryan Day on Justin Fields. ‘best fit, and an NFL draft analyst making a case for Trey Lance.

Expectations for DeMeco Ryans’ first season as 49ers defense coordinator

Not the case with the Ryans.

Ryans, an inexperienced former linebacker, likes Saleh. But Ryans takes over a defense that was the best fifth in the NFL last season without Nick Bosa, and last season’s second in the league when he had Bosa. Now Bosa is back from a torn ACL, so the expectation is another elite defense.

Maybe we should temper our expectations.

Saleh was not a good defensive coordinator during his first two seasons. He showed promise, built a system and a culture, but his weekly game plans were not particularly sophisticated, nor were the adjustments in the game. He completed part of his work in Years 3 and 4 when his game plans became effective and opponent-specific.

Ian Rapoport is not ready to pencil Mac Jones for 49ers

I think a lot of buzz is legal. What I do not know 100 percent, do they actually do? Rapoport told Eisen. ‘Because if you talk to other teams in the top 10, and really only to other teams in general, everyone agrees that Mac Jones is a first round. Not everyone agrees that he should be elected there. Is he then Kirk Cousins-plus for Kyle? Can be. But I’m not 100 percent ready to say, ‘This is definitely the man we’re going to make after the fourth choice.’ ‘

It’s the logical conclusion to go into the top three with Justin State Fields in Ohio and Trey Lance in North Dakota as well. While Jones is coming off a stellar 2020 season, Lance and Fields are an excellent prospect on their own, with a lot of athletics contributing to their upside.

Brain of Phillip Adams, former NFL player accused of killing 5 people, is being studied for CTE

Phillips, 32, died Thursday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators did not immediately determine a possible motive in the killing of the leading doctor.

Adams suffered at least two concussions with the Oakland Raiders late in the 2012 season.

“I think football confused him,” the former player’s father, Alonzo Adams, told WCNC, the NBC branch in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He did not expand.

Justin Fields University Coach Explains Best NFL Offensive Suitability for QB

“I think an offense early on – running, playing action, getting him started,” Day told Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks on the NFL Network on Thursday (Matt Matt Howe for 247 Sports). ‘He’s really good out of pocket, controlled passing play. And then, as time goes on and he feels more and more comfortable in the bag with the third-and-red-zone relapse concepts, he will continue to just build. And the more representatives he gets, the better. But like every time you have a young quarterback, I think things where he’s on the move and athletic, and you give him the ability to make plays out of pocket, are going to be exciting to watch.

‘The other thing, part of his game is if you study him in the red zone – he’s really good down there. And if we can find ways – we always felt that we would find a way to get the thing in the red zone, that he was really good down there. And so, I think any offense that could put him in such situations – he will do well early. And this is a man who has not played much football yet when you look at the great work he has had. And I think the potential is through the roof. ”

Zierlein: Trey Lance is the perfect playmaker for Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers

“This is the man who has to set up San Francisco,” Zierlein said. ‘This is the man you pick up extra for. I understand the Kyle Shanahan offense. I was sitting here covering it under Gary Kubiak, and he learned it from Mike Shanahan. Let me tell you, the one thing that’s missing in all the quarterbacks you mentioned (Wyche calls quick decision makers Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins, en Jimmy Garoppolo), what about a guy who can also make plays with his feet? This is where the NFL is going.

‘You can still read the progress on multiple levels that you want to go through. He has size. He has speed. He has an attitude. And you know what I like about him? He can really make plays along the way and extend with his feet. ”
