Not the case with the Ryans.
Ryans, an inexperienced former linebacker, likes Saleh. But Ryans takes over a defense that was the best fifth in the NFL last season without Nick Bosa, and last season’s second in the league when he had Bosa. Now Bosa is back from a torn ACL, so the expectation is another elite defense.
Maybe we should temper our expectations.
Saleh was not a good defensive coordinator during his first two seasons. He showed promise, built a system and a culture, but his weekly game plans were not particularly sophisticated, nor were the adjustments in the game. He completed part of his work in Years 3 and 4 when his game plans became effective and opponent-specific.

It’s the logical conclusion to go into the top three with Justin State Fields in Ohio and Trey Lance in North Dakota as well. While Jones is coming off a stellar 2020 season, Lance and Fields are an excellent prospect on their own, with a lot of athletics contributing to their upside.

Phillips, 32, died Thursday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigators did not immediately determine a possible motive in the killing of the leading doctor.
Adams suffered at least two concussions with the Oakland Raiders late in the 2012 season.
“I think football confused him,” the former player’s father, Alonzo Adams, told WCNC, the NBC branch in Charlotte, North Carolina.
