Awards season in Hollywood begins on Sunday, February 28 with the 78th Golden Globe Awards, hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The Golden Globes, commonly regarded as a harbinger of who may take awards to other shows like the Oscars, will look a little different this year thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. The hosts and presenters will be in different locations in the US and around the world.
Streaming services finally came into their own at the Globes, with Netflix having the leading series with 20 nominations for its television programs; Hulu has six nominations in total, Apple TV Plus has two and Disney Plus one. In the movie categories (the Globes honors movies and TV shows), Netflix leads the way with 22 nominations.
And it seems that the Golden Globes judges have heard the criticism of the past year about the exclusion of women in the category of best directors. This year, three of the five nominees for Best Director are Women.
What time does the Golden Globes start?
The Golden Globes will begin on Sunday 28 February at 20:00 ET / 17:00 PT. Just like the past few years, NBC broadcasts the three-hour awards.
How do I look at the Golden Globes?
The Golden Globes are available for live streaming via NBC’s website or app, but you need to enter your TV provider information to watch. You can also watch Hulu Plus Live TV and YouTubeTV, both of which have paid subscriptions.
Where can I see the pre-show?
As every year, E! holds its preview at 18:00 ET / 15:00 PT. The official pre-show starts at 18:30 ET / 15:30 PT from the stream Golden Globes Twitter account and the official Hollywood Foreign Press Association Golden Globes website. NBC begins its red carpet coverage at 7pm ET / 4pm PT.
Who hosts the Golden Globes?
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are back as co-hosts and returning for the fourth time. The pair were presented in 2013, 2013 and 2015. They will be bicoastal this year: Fey will live in New York, while Poehler is in Beverly Hills.
