It was confirmed earlier that God of War: Ragnarok will come to PlayStation 5. Although no official announcement has been made by Sony about the game’s release on PS4, speculators at GamesRadar predict that a double release is likely, as Sony will launch exclusive games on both consoles to continue during 2021, including Horizon: Forbidden West. This was also deduced from a 2020 interview with Sony Interactive Entertainment’s head of platform programming, Hideaki Nishino, who said that ‘for the time being development is also needed for the PS4’, taking into account the extensive user base of the previous console.

Although the plot of the latest installment of the action-adventure game currently being developed by Santa Monica Studio remains unknown, fans can expect former protagonists Kratos and his son Atreus to appear prominently. With elements of battles, puzzles and platforming, the original God of war (2005)’s game is equal to the highest rank in the franchise with the immediate predecessor of the upcoming episode, God of War (2018) both received several perfect scores from critics.

Standing in the ranks of Insomniac and Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio is widely regarded as one of Sony’s best developers. Some critics consider the choice to release the game on PS4 to be a possible mistake, arguing that the current shortage of exclusive games from the PS5 could discourage users from upgrading their consoles. At present, it would seem that Sony does not rely on exclusivity to drive sales, as the latest generation recently broke the records of all units and dollar sales and became the best-selling console in US history.

Developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, God of War: Ragnarok appears in 2021 for the PlayStation 5.
