‘Stay tuned’ was the phrase we received during the first season 6 announcement for GO Battle League, which the community eagerly awaited. The wait is now over and we have confirmed information about the second half of season 6 for GO Battle League.
This announcement offers us the remaining league format shift along with rewards updates with new and exciting move updates that will be guaranteed in the current meta.
Let’s break up this announcement and discuss key points about these upcoming changes.
League Value Summary
The Big League will run from Monday 11 January 2021 at 13:00 to Monday 25 January 2021 at 13:00 PST (GMT −8).
The Ultra League and she Premier Cup will take place from Monday 25 January 2021 at 13:00 to Monday 8 February 2021 at 13:00 PST (GMT −8).
The Champions League, sy Premier Cup, Master League Classic, and a special cup to be announced will take place from Monday 8 February 2021 at 13:00 to Monday 15 February 2021 at 13:00 PST (GMT −8). More information about this special cup will be announced soon.
All three leagues and the Ultra League Premier Cup will take place from Monday 15 February 2021 at 13:00 to Monday 22 February 2021 at 13:00 PST (GMT −8).
The Kanto Cup will run from Monday 22 February 2021 at 13:00 to Monday 1 March 2021 at 13:00 PST (GMT −8). The CP limit for this cup is 1500 and only Pokémon with a Pokédex number between 001 and 151 are allowed. During this period, your rating will not be affected.
As we can see, it looks like the second half of season 6 will be a full circle that will start again with Great League and make its natural progression to Master League.
We have been teased with the announcement of a ‘special’ cup from 8 February, but we do not yet have much information on this. The Kanto Cup will make a return to the Master League we saw in season 5 after February 22nd.
Personally, I can see the first half of season 6 as a warm-up for the future. Trial and error led to this second half and the competition will be fierce. Trainers will compete to get to rank 24 and with the next move changes listed below, things will definitely get intense on the battlefield.
Reward Update
If you are 20, you will be guaranteed Frillish, which makes its Pokémon GO debut! You also have the chance to encounter it on the rewards tracks for higher rankings!
At rank 19 you now receive a Elite Charged TM. You will also receive a Elite Fast TM as a reward at the end of the season if you achieve rank 19.

Frillish is now available as a reward for winning battles in GO Battle League. Frillish is a Water & Ghost Pokémon. It is vulnerable to Grass, Dark, Ghost and Electric move. Frillish’s strongest moving set is Bubble & Ice ray and it has a maximum CP of 1 257. Frillish developed in Jellicent.

These changes change the meta, popular Pokémon and strategies are now obsolete, with notable Pokémon Azumaril with Bubble now less damage to the infamous’Grasgat‘strategy with Lime leaf do less damage now. Will we see a whole new meta of these changes?
These nerves also affect popular Pokémon such as Skarmory with Sky Attack, Stunfisk (Galarian) with Rock Slide and also Marowak (Alolan) with Shadow leg.
Of these newly introduced moves that some Pokémon can now learn, some stand out more than others. Take for example: Primeape, which now has access to Yspons who will be able to handle
type of Pokémon that Primeape has normally fought hard against in the past. Not only does this change benefit Primeape; it can now generate energy faster with the buff Karate Chop.Kanto Nintetails will also be a solid candidate with these changes with the damage increase to Ember and it now has access to Weerbal Fire.
These changes are exciting after all and we can not wait to see what kind of Pokémon and tactics people will use in the second half of season 6.
Good luck, trainers! and remember to stay safe.
